Man Utd sweating over fitness of 4 key players ahead of Europa League final

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim has stated that he may be without six defenders for Wednesday’s match against Chelsea.

Just Less than a week before the Europa League final against Tottenham, head coach Ruben Amorim is worried about the fitness of two key Manchester United defenders.

Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro were missing from the training session at Carrington on Wednesday morning.

De Ligt has not been seen since leaving the field before half-time during the 4–3 defeat against Brentford earlier this month.

The centre-back is reported to have a knee injury. Yoro was substituted after suffering a muscular injury early in the second half during Sunday’s 2–0 defeat to West Ham.

During his post-match press conference, Amorim stated it was too early to provide an update on the Frenchman’s condition. “We have to assess Leny better tomorrow. He felt something, but it could be a small thing.”

When did De Ligt and Yoro expect to return?

Amorim said before the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao that de Ligt will miss at least two matches.

There was some hope that de Ligt would be on the bench against Chelsea on Friday evening, but his absence from training suggests that may not happen.

Amorim downplayed the seriousness of Yoro’s injury, but further medical exams may have uncovered a more severe issue.

Diogo Dalot missed Wednesday’s training session but is progressing in recovering from a calf injury. He participated in some individual drills. He still has a chance to return for the final against the Spurs.

Centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans are both long-term absentees. Meanwhile, Ayden Heaven remains on the treatment table.

The defender hasn’t played since the international break due to a leg injury from March’s match against Leicester City.
